Is there a lot of bots on Cupid.com and other dating sites?

I need to know because its hard to believe I am getting this much attention. I haven't even made a move and women are chatting me up saying that I look like an old clmate and such. My gut tells me its just a marketing ploy. Has anyone had experience with fake profiles on dating sites? I want to know before I pay for a subscription.
