When girls on Laguna Beach say "hook up", does that mean have ?

I don't know if it's a white thing or a rich ppl thing (no offense) but, i don't know any white ppl or any rich ppl my age. On the show, they say "I hooked up with so-and-so last night..." and then tell there parents about it.
