Can I 'house train' my ferret?
Yes you can...its similar to training a bunny (which I have). A few basic things, does he chew wires/cords? If so, get cord covers from Home depot or some pet stores. What is he biting? If its not just people, go get Bitter Spray from the pet store. The only one that worked with my bunny is special for small animals and its called "Fooey" a href="http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/product.asp?CID=0&pf_id=0029369" rel="nofollow"http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/product.as…/a Theres a link, its recommended for ferrets too. Anyways, don't over use it, just when necessary so you don't desensitize your ferret to the taste. To teach him how to poop and pee in the litter tray, you should use first of all a ferret safe litter like Swheat Scoop. Clay can be deadly if ingested. Then confine him to a small space like a bathroom or a small pen out in the living space, even a room might be ok but could be too large. He might just automatically prefer the litterbox to go to the bathroom in. My bunny did. Then if he has an accident, you either blot up the urine then put the kleenex in the litterbox with the urine on it, or you pick up his poop and put it in the litterbox. He will eventually get the point. If you're going to make him a house ferret, you really want to make sure that you don't allow him access to things you are worried about him destroying. they are notorious for ruining bed matresses and getting inside of them. Also there are house dangers like an open toilet, laundry that could get washed with ferret inside :( Stove, closets, etc. So block off areas he shouldn't be. Good luck.
