Tele or Strat.................?

Okay kiddies, I'm gonna start playing guitar (I've played b for a year). At any rate. I want to get into some shred guitar, you know Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, EVH, and the like. But,m since I'll be rubbish for a good while, so I'm gonna learn the basics, and then teach myself to play lead by learning Aerosmith's catalog. I just love Joe Perry's blues influent lead guitar. So, which guitar would be better for Joe Perry-esque guitar, and some basic shredding, a Squier Telecaster or Squier Stratocaster? Please, no Squier flaming, because I'm getting one. Deal with it.
