Is abuse -- physical or psychological -- ever "deserved"?

No. I don't give a rats as* if she is goading him on, yelling at him, whatever. The man has a choice to walk away from it...but instead, it appears this man physically and mentally abuses her as well... there is NO justification for that... none. This couple sounds like their from hell and would be much better split up.
